1962: wir spielten alle über einen "Eminent", 50 W, und zwei Echolette-Boxen. Das passte alles bequem in einen Kofferraum, und zwar in den von Rocky's 220er Mercedes, unserem damaligen Bandwagen.

This must be the oldest book I've got in my little library: Robinson der Jüngere, zur angenehmen und nützlichen Unterhaltung für Kinder, von J. H. Campe. It's nothing important or even valuable, it's only an old Children's book. But it's from 1792. Think about it. 1792! This book is 216 years old. 216 years, and the pages are all still pure white. Damn good paper they've used in those days. A few HiRes scans can be found on flickr.

Tom Cruise: the happy Scientologist. Scientology is also recommended for ingrown toenails, premature ejaculation, carbuncles and obsessively watching Knight Rider. Via linkfilter.Let me put it this way: if Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah's couch was an 8 on the scale of scary, this is a 10.

I really don't need this at all. However, it's nice to know that I've secured the twitter.com/cartoonist URL. Ha.
And I'll probably post there from time to time.

Regular readers of my weblog probably know that I read & buy quite a lot of books, from serious literature like James Joyce and Arno Schmidt to art, advertising, Perry Rhodan, political stuff and even Michael Palin. However, this one's the most entertaining books I've come across for quite a long time (well, except for Palin's Monty Python diaries perhaps):
Peter Hein, Geht so. Wegbeschreibungen.
2007 Lilienfeld Verlag Düsseldorf

Peter Hein, also known as Janie J. Jones, describes his encounters with places, towns and villages in Germany while touring with his bands Fehlfarben and Family*5. In his unique writing style he takes us aboard a train running alongside the Rhine, then visits Hamburg, Augsburg, Berlin (and Berlin is only worth a mention of half a page), Scheißkaff (the whole chapter just one endlessly long and complicated sentence, which runs across 4 pages, beautifully written), and, after many others (Würzburg, Tuttlingen, Wetzlar, Aschaffenburg etc), finally Silverstone: the race. Fab. What Peter Hein has to say about Magdeburg I've already quoted elsewhere. Janie: fab book you've written there.
It's also beautifully designed, with wonderful typesetting and great binding - the old Greno publishing company springs to mind (to all the people who are old enough to remember Franz Greno). Great work from the publishing company.
In short: all my readers capable of reading German, get this book. It's fab:
Amazon Germany
Lilienfeld Verlag
Get it. Now. It's great.
