Once upon a time, there were good print ads. Here's one of those. A three consecutive pages ad for a pack of biscuits by GGK Düsseldorf.

Regular readers of my weblog will know that I used to play as a rather rubbish rhythm guitarist in a few bands — Neat and Clox come to mind (more about this on my 1979 Deutschland pages). This was in the late 70s/early 80s and the music we played was called Punk Rock. However, after leaving Neat, I actually formed my own band. We were called ST42. And only a few days ago I discovered an old rehearsal room tape tucked away in a drawer. To my knowledge this is the only surviving tape of ST42. A true gem, a collector's item, the dog's bollocks, and I extracted 4 songs from this tape, which I'm now publishing here for the first time to a broader audience. Under no circumstances listen to this. The recording was done with two microphones hanging from the ceiling in a tiny little room and the tape itself is now almost 30 years old. It's absolutely horrible.

Karl Hans Janke vs. Wernher von Braun. An exhibition at the Museum Peenemünde with a catalogue in PDF format. Another exhibition, Die Stille des Fliegens, can be found here — again with a downloadable catalogue of Janke's beautiful drawings. Finally, the Janke website. Via things.Karl Hans Janke, a patient with unquestionable technical talent, sees himself as an artist and a technical designer. From 1948 until his death in 1988 he created about 4.000 works — for instance paintings and models of strange spaceships.

A photo shoot in a South-London Pub, probably 1999/2000. Many thanks to Brian Towell for the picture; photo by Chris Holland (Brian, where's Chris Holland's website?). Now this could have been a really great campaign, if the client hadn't spend all of his budget on research instead of media. The product manager who was responsible for this mess actually got fired soon after. And I had some pints at 9 o'clock in the morning. What a wonderful pub this is.

The book covers, most of them illustrated by the fabulous Eddie Jones; anyone's got a proper link for Mr Jones? I can't find him anywhere on the web. Oh, and have a look at Michael Mau's illustrations again: 1, 2.
