Bowling at the Fitzwilliam. I shouldn't say this, but I find it hilarious:

Accidents, famously, do happen. Alas this adage cannot serve to soften the blow inflicted by the events at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge last Wednesday lunchtime, when a gentleman tripped upon his shoelaces, tumbled down a set of stairs and crashed into a set of three, 300-year-old Chinese vases, which had sat happily undisturbed on a windowsill at the bottom of the staircase for a good 40 years.

I'm getting fed up with this. Here we go again, here it is, thanks to Google searches.

The Clash in Germany. In 1977, the Clash toured Germany. Also in 1977, the German Punk fanzine The Ostrich published 'Total Control', a little A5 booklet full with articles about the band's gigs in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich. Because I think there's a certain historical value to this, I created a PDF [4.8MB] of the fanzine. It's partly written in English (the interviews with the band), but most of it is in German (the articles). Enjoy and download.

Total Control.

A picture named franz.gifA Punk Legend Returns. Franz Bielmeier, also known as Mary Lou Monroe, was the founding member of Düsseldorf's great punk band Charley's Girls, who then evolved into Mittagspause. Remember the Ratinger Hof? Later, he set up the famous Rondo record label and wrote and recorded beautiful songs for his new band, Aqua Velva. After some private trouble he vanished, only to resurface again for the interviews published in Jürgen Teipel's book about the history of German punk rock, Verschwende deine Jugend; then he disappeared again.

And now he's back. Franz has started recording again, and it's FAB. He gave permission to publish four of his new songs exclusively right here at The Cartoonist. With the exception of Dub, all those songs are part of his Schwester Strahl (Sister Ray) project.

Be prepared for some fabulous noise:

Baby Yo [MP3, 2.7MB]

Ente + Sally [MP3, 4.3MB]

Dub [MP3, 3.7MB]

Unfall [MP3, 8.4MB]

Schwester Strahl CD

Franz Bielmeier is now looking for a record label. Any ideas are welcome, so please leave a comment.

And here are the lyrics:

Schwester Strahl Lyrics

Höre. Staune. Gute Laune. Enjoy.
