When Project Blue Book was closed down in January 1970, the original files were transferred to Maxwell AFB where they were made available on request for public viewing until 1975. In 1975 these documents were microfilmed by the Air Force for internal use and then transferred to the National Archives for public release. Before microfilming these documents for public release, however, the Air Force blacked out witness names and other personal information in accord with its policy of protecting the privacy of witnesses despite the fact that the files had been available for copying and inspection for years without these deletions. In 1998 a set of the original unredacted Air Force microfilm was discovered at the National Archives. In addition to witness names and information, it has been confirmed that these rolls contain some pages that are not on the NARA rolls.

A Story. After leaving Vienna, and long before you come to Budapesth, the Danube enters a region of singular loneliness and desolation, where its waters spread away on all sides regardless of a main channel, and the country becomes a swamp for miles upon miles, covered by a vast sea of low willow-bushes. On the big maps this deserted area is painted in a fluffy blue, growing fainter in colour as it leaves the banks, and across it may be seen in large straggling letters the word Sumpfe, meaning marshes. Algernon Blackwood, The Willows.

Something about the scene reminded me of the strange and disturbing Asian paintings of Nicholas Roerich, and of the still stranger and more disturbing descriptions of the evilly fabled plateau of Leng which occur in the dreaded Necronomicon of the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred.

Butlin's Holiday Camps were conceived by Billy Butlin during a wet holiday week on Barry Island while locked out of his unwelcoming boarding house. He dreamt of a holiday centre for the great mass of working-class families, where they could have a good time irrespective of the British weather. And here: Butlins Memories, with loads of old materials - maps, photos, ads.

On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive him at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris [...] Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested.

A great Ad from GGK. Nowadays not quite politically correct: a little kid flogging booze, but this was 1966 — hey, peace, man. Anyway, this is excellent copywriting and the idea for the ad itself is quite funny — the Söhnlein company gives away a free bottle of its sparkling wine to families with 6 daughters, but without a son (Söhnlein). I just love it; advertising was still fun in 1966.

Velvets. Lazy as I am, I'll just copy and paste Jim's entry here:Do you people have a curfew or anything like that? Does it matter what time you go home tonight? Do you have school tomorrow?... 'Cause we could do either one long set or we could do two sets, you know, which ever makes it easier for you.... One long one?... Okay, then this is going to go on for a while. So we should get used to each other. Obsessional on The Velvet Underground, album by album. Via Irregular Orbit.

Their download section comes with a Multilingual Egyptological Thesaurus, remarkable and bizarre notes about Egypt by early travellers, coptic fonts, and of course the truly unique recording of the original silver trumpet from the tomb of the Ancient Egyptian boy-king Tutankhamun, who lived in the 14th century B.C.
