Dedicated. An Ode to Benedict XVI.Heigh-Ho
We pray pray pray pray pray pray pray in our chapel
the whole day through
To sing sing sing sing sing sing sing is what we really like to do
It's all a trick to get rich quick
If you swing swing swing with a bible or a cross
In a chapel! In a chapel! In a chapel! In a chapel!
Where a million bishops shine!
We pray pray pray pray pray pray pray from early morn till night
We sing sing sing sing sing sing sing for everyone in sight
We doodle in bibles by the score
Five Gutenbergs, sometimes more
But we don't know what we read 'em for
We pray pray pray a-pray-ee-oe
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho
Heigh-ho
[Chorus]
Heigh-ho, Heigh-hope
In Rome we've got a new pope
[Whistle]

Graphic Design. I just happened to stumble upon a few issues of Gebrauchsgraphik from 1969/1970, which I found in a box on a book shelf. Gebrauchsgraphik used to be the leading German magazine for all things advertising/design/illustration at the time. I scanned in some of the ads, all of them directed towards designers. And here they are, this is fun. At the same time I opened up a flickr account, because I was too lazy setting up another gallery page and uploading it to my domain. I think everybody should have a flickr account these days.

Literature, found in a Box. The completed UFO trading cards album from 1972. Sample pages below. I can't help it, but I find the back page incredibly cute. Letter spacing +25, at least. Technical Data: the cards are all fixed to the album pages with either UHU Alleskleber or a PRITT Stift. And the album came without a CD or DVD ROM; there wasn't even a poster included. Yes, I was 12 years old at the time, and didn't even know about cow gum. Unfortunately.

I'm not Dead yet, am I? Looks as if a so-called friend of mine must have run into financial troubles. One of my books, which I apparently personally dedicated to someone, is being sold for an outrageous price in Switzerland. Wonder who that might be. Considering the number, which is 37 out of 999, it was certainly one of the samples I received from the publisher - and then gave away, scribbling something onto the title page. Dedicated to someone. And now that someone just sold it. I'm really hurt now.Bastards. Can't you wait with things like that until I'm dead, for Christ's sake?

Books. I foolishly decided to participate in Armin's Literary Meme, without realizing all the work involved, but with the help of Basil I finally managed to sort it out. Here you go:You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451; which book do you want to be? That's an easy one: Adrian Tinniswood, By Permission of Heaven. The story of the great fire of London. Haven't read it yet, but it's on my list. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Oh, absolutely. What are you currently reading? Arno Schmidt, Zur angelsächsischen Literatur, Bd.3 - James Joyce, Stanislaus Joyce. This is only because I'm working on some new Finnegans Wake illustrations. And no link here, because the book is long out of print, and the website of Schmidt's new publisher is a complete mess. I mean, this is terrible - one of Germany's leading publishing companies has a website with broken links, a terrible layout and a non-existing navigation. Unbelievable. The last book you bought is: Josef Hilger, Raumpatrouille. The last book you read is: Christian Wolmar, Subterranean Railway. A social history of the tube. A great book. Five books you would take to a desert island: 1. Arno Schmidt, The Stony Heart. 2. Hanns Kneifel, Raumpatrouille Orion (Haffmans edition). 3. Patrick Marnham, The Man Who Wasn't Maigret. A portrait of Georges Simenon. 4. Friedhelm Rathjen, Kuckuckseier und Nestbeschmutzer. 5. Ralf Zeigermann, Antarktis Expedition 1931/32. Who are you going to pass this stick to, and why? Ha! I think I found at least 3 unfortunate people who might grab the stick and pass it on further: The nice guys at paperholic, because in real life they deal with books; steff, because I assume he actually reads books; Matt, because I'm interested in his selection. That was work! I'm exhausted now.
