The Lady. The Moe Tucker Band, Augsburg 1993. The tall one is Sterling Morrison (No, not the big one - that's John Slugget!). And there's a Tardis in the background. Photo by Jutta Brandt. We were booked in this tiny little hotel in Augsburg. In the morning, Sterling entered the breakfast room, all dressed in black, sunglasses, obviously suffering from a hangover. He sat down at a table, opposite a woman, a tourist. She looked at the tall, big man from America, stared at the black clothes. Sterling just stared back from behind his sunglasses. The lady, distressed, dropped her breakfast roll and left the room. Sterling looked around and ordered a full breakfast. Augsburg is in Bavaria after all. Liebe GGK [2]. Shortly after winning a considerable amount of IBM business, the advertising agency GGK Düsseldorf threw a party. This is the book about the party: Deutschland Symphonie. And what a party it was.

The Cameraman. Claudio von Planta does TV stuff. Serious TV stuff. Really serious TV stuff. He's in Sierra Leone, in West India and now in Kirkuk. He's a friend of mine; and I hope, he will come back. Without any injuries and whatnot. Apart from that, I think he's just mad.

In Between. Sorting boxes and moving stuff. As you can see, I quite didn't get round moving my Mac yet. Still trying, but can't be bothered right now. This one comes via the wonderful Geisha Asobi: Kamikaze! Those video clips are incredible. Scroll down, click on the blue bits and watch.Oh - looks as if the original title is something like: KAMIKAZETOKUBETSUKOUGEKITAI.

Incredibly Busy. I'm moving furniture from one room into another. Which means, I'm getting a bigger studio. Which also means, I'll have to move my Mac & router as well, together with several hundreds of books and files and everything. Don't expect any updates for the next 3 years today.

Arf, Arf. Oh, this is fantastic, beautiful, great and insane. And another book I'll have to order:Modern Arf. The unholy marriage of art and comics, by Craig Yoe. And while you're there, quickly sprint over to Yoe Studio, because Craig also does other nice things when he's not writing books. ...Modern Arf encompasses a rich treasure trove of images spanning 1836 to the present. This iconoclastic tome showcases the gamut of artists, from celebrated innovators to forgotten geniuses. Featured are surrealist master Salvador Dali, comics king Jack Kirby, absurd originator Milt Gross, au courant cartoonist Patrick McDonnell, legendary maverick R.Crumb, brilliant unknown Hy Mayer, and many more.

What we've never seen indeed, was the big day itself. Lots of historic stuff has been preserved - images, texts, even sounds, and the saga has been told on and on. However only very few people have actually seen how Steve Jobs pulls the first Mac out of this bag, how the Mac introduces itself to the public, Steves biggest grin ever, and how he is obviously overwhelmed by this moment in the Cupertino Flint Center. IT&W's server seems to be down at the moment? Aha - Mirror at MacNews, 20MB download.

Gucky is Dead. The message came through Usenet and Mailing-Lists. If this is not a rather tasteless joke, then it looks as if Clark Darlton (Walter Ernsting), German Science Fiction Author and Co-Founder of the famous Perry Rhodan book series, has passed away this morning at a hospital in Salzburg. Update: Seems to be true, certain SF-related Usenet Groups are boiling over with this story.

Liebe GGK [1]. Amazing. I've received a tremendous feedback after publishing a rather old GGK Memo; thank you everyone. Now here's another one. And there are more to follow; one for every month. Many thanks to Jürgen, who compiled the booklet with all the Liebe GGk memos in the first place and who I can't trace anymore; many thanks to GGK, to Paul Gredinger and to Michael Schirner. And to all the others. It was a great time; in fact it was the best of all times.A new Category Liebe GGK can be found here, and the RSS feed is here. Sorry it's all in German, but it could be worse - GGK was always a Swiss network. You don't want to read any Schwyzerdütsch or Brookenduetsch here, do you? Have some fun instead.

Hommage to an Unknown Artist. Wonderful. Lots of thanks to Jaime.Stefan Mart was the narrator and illustrator of the picture book Tales of the Nations, published in Hamburg in 1933 by the "Cigarettenbilderdienst Hamburg-Bahrenfeld" ("Cigarette Picture Service"). It won the hearts of innumerable children and grown-ups in the course of the six years that it was in print. This was due above all to the 150 colour illustrations: they were small in size, but strong in expression, each a microcosm packed with action, each a feast for the eyes like a beautifully set jewel; everything was finely-drawn and clear, indeed with the exaggerated clarity of the caricature; they all radiated the shining, flaming colourfulness of modern painting.
