... I created my own using scanned data, lots of painting, and reference to USGS digital elevation map data. Once I had completed both a bump and colour map of the Earth, I turned to the other planets in our solar system, scavenging data where I could and piecing together the images I am sharing here.

Housekeeping. Welcome everybody to the new home of The Cartoonist. With now 2 gigs of webspace, this weblog could go on for a little while. And Radio's FTP driver is fab - no more upstreaming errors. At last! The Google box on the right doesn't work at present; Google hasn't indexed the new site yet. But that should only be a question of time. The Corgi pages are getting a facelift, hopefully over the weekend, and there are new catalogues to come; Harry Schley was so kind to supply me with a complete catalogue from the eighties. So ... enjoy. Have fun!

Moving Pictures. This is fantastic. A list of German movies from 1929-1972, nicely done with posters, staff, who's who etc. Brilliant. This comes yet again via WeltamDraht (Ulli - brilliant!).

Smoke the tyres. Guess who won the Hockenheim Grand Prix today? Exactly. Formula One has become so boring these days (except when someone is mad enough driving a McLaren Mercedes, whose rears wings just pop off at high speed), it's reason enough to beam back in time and remember some forgotten drivers, when F1 used to be exciting:Jody Scheckter. Ronnie Peterson. Patrick Depailler. Clay Regazzoni. Rolf Stommelen. Jean Pierre Beltoise. Jochen Rindt. Of course this list is far from being complete; those are just a few of the drivers who used to be my heroes in the 70s. Also highly recommended, the excellent Grand Prix History website and Watkins Glen Memories. And, naturally, the best F1 commentator ever: Murray Walker (In his quieter moments, it sounds like his trousers are on fire. - Clive James) and the Murray Walker Quotes Page: With half the race gone, there is half the race still to go. Anything happens in Grand Prix racing and it usually does. ...and there's no damage to the car.....except to the car itself. There's nothing wrong with the car except that it's on fire. A few Murray Walker Audio Clips can be found here. And here are some more. This is ab-so-lut-'-ly fab!

Let's do the Erlenmeyer. Singing Science Records, with song titles like Zoom A Little Zoom or E-lec-tri-city. Fantastic collection of MP3s. Credits go again to WeltamDraht. The Singing Science lyrics were very Atomic Age, while the tunes were generally riffs on popular or genre music of the time. We played them incessantly.

Important Message to my Readers. The Cartoonist is moving. To a domain with the funny name of http://zeigermann.com/Don't worry though; it'll take a few weeks until the transition is complete, with all the decision-making: should I stick with Radio or should I move to Expression Engine? God knows. I'll let you know when everything's ready to update your bookmarks. In case anyone has bookmarked me at all.

Caricaturing him has been fairly straightforward, once I'd discovered the secret of his one mad (left) eye, furrowed brow and bland, twinkly (right) eye. He is blessed with prominent features which one can satisfyingly apply to any animal or object, be it dog, dalek or electricity pylon. This gives one tremendous scope for extended visual metaphor. More from Steve Bell here.

Sweet Jane. It's live, comes with the complete intro by Messieurs Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter, and can be found on this website [MP3, 9.8MB], amongst other superb Old Fart Music. This is a record to be played loud. Like a Formula One car, it doesn't really begin to perform until it's pushed close to the limit. As background music it isn't much, but powered up on a strong system loud enough to make enemies a quarter-mile away, Rock n Roll Animal -- recorded live at Lou Reed's Academy of Music concert December 21st, 1973 -- is, well, very fine. Dear David,
Just a quick message; waiting for my plane back to Arkham. No point in wasting your time telling you what happened here yesterday; i'm not sure i believe it myself. know now what charles meant by "shining trapezohedron." we thought it was just a simple religion. damnable cult. might be more truth than i thought in the Necronomicon. saw one of the detectives make the Voorish sign, can they be in it? thank you for the banking information. i can't do anything with it as its the weekend. Monday will go to my bank and get my passport and transfer the money. $6000 is no problem, should have it by Tuesday latest. Yours ever,

I'm glad I haven't got one. A Barclaycard. The mysteries of online banking with Barclays Bank, all explained here:
Barclaycard dumps Mac users |The RegisterWe are not quite sure how much light we've been able to shed on this one. Let's recap: Barclaycard current policy is that it doesn't support Macs. It never has, except that it did. And it should be fixed soon. But it isn't to do with the logo, its all because of Netscape 7. UK-Banking is a mystery, not only with Barclays, not only with online banking, but with UK-Banking itself. Believe me.

I really like Coudal Partners new layout and webdesign. And now check out panicarmy, who are based in Lithuania. And this panic guy even has the nerve writing: As a web designer, i look for perfection in my work, and inspiration in the work of others. Well, he doesn't seem to understand the difference between 'inspiration' and 'theft'. Back to art school. Now.
