Weblog Power. The artist Peter Thorpe writes:I am not too familiar with blogs, but I've just got a lesson in their power. In 3 days, I've gotten almost 2000 hits from the links, about 20 requests for prices, and the Canadian science fiction magazine, OnSpec, has asked to use one for a cover. Amazing. All because I linked to his fab Rocket paintings? I am left speechless. And happy. Now if somebody could please buy a T-Shirt or a mug from my shop, I'd be even happier.

Books on Demand. I was wondering if some of my countless readers might have any experience with a Books On Demand service?I'm thinking about republishing my graphic novel, Antarktis Expedition 1931/32 - Das Tagebuch des Peter Ludwig Fall (Antarctic Expedition 1931/32 - the diary of Peter Ludwig Fall; a few sample pages here), but this time extended with an English translation, preliminary sketches and the materials I've used - old newspaper clippings etc. Please leave your comments below... what are the hidden costs, for example? How about distribution? What do I have to pay before they start printing? I've checked out a few BOD sites, but they're all somehow confusing. By the way: the original book as published by Greno is still available second hand at ZVAB; just do a search for 'zeigermann'.

The boy - who is now 15 and can be referred to only as John for legal reasons - persuaded his friend, known as Mark, now 17, to stab him to death in order to pass a fictitious initiation test for the British secret services in a meticulously planned attack one Sunday evening last summer.

This is Cult. And definitely an entry for The Old Fart MP3 Competition. Roy Black. A website by Jürgen Koppelin, MdB (Mitglied des Bundestages); those politicians surely know how to spend their time. Fantastic. And here is Roy Black with Du bist nicht allein [MP3, 3.4MB]. Because I couldn't find this particular song anywhere on the web, I'm hosting it on my own server. Which means, it'll disappear Sunday Morning (Velvets Cover by Cactus Blanket; the original is God knows where) at the latest.Oi! That's a double entry! SWR, please jot down 2 points for The Cartoonist! And I guess you are getting a fiver for Back in the USSR? Bugger: all in the absence of IT&W. Well, while the cat's away, the mice will play. Ok, this is gruselig; but not necessarily uncool. As a matter of fact, it's quite fab.

Understanding the Brits. I've blogged this before. And here it is again, because it's just too good. George Mikes: How to be an Alien. Fab. In fact, it deserves a double-fab at least. And I guess Majo will like it anyway - if he ever returns from Legoland. When I arrived in England I thought I knew English. After I'd been here an hour I realised that I did not understand one word. In the first week I picked up a tolerable working knowledge of the language and the next seven years convinced me gradually but thoroughly that I would never know it really well, let alone perfectly. This is sad. My only consolation being that nobody speaks English perfectly. Remember that those five hundred words an average Englishman uses are far from being the whole vocabulary of the language. You may learn another five hundred and yet another five thousand and yet another fifty thousand and still you may come across a further fifty thousand you have never heard before, and nobody else either.

This is Fantastic. I just happened to notice the Memex 1.1 Radio Weblog - it's from Cambridge (UK)! Brilliant. Fantastic. Fab. Great articles, lots of nice photography, and having lived in Cambridge myself for about 6 years, I can only agree:Summer always catches Cambridge unawares. One day it's wet, overcast and cold. Then, when you least expect it, you find yourself living in one of the most achingly beautiful towns in the world.

Pictures don't lie. Here's the proof: Sir Majo, handing over the golden Kohlrabi to yours truly, The Cartoonist, after a night out at The Gentleman's Club in Pall Mall.Alright, I've made it up. The Kohlrabi is not a golden one, it's an ordinary German one and comes in a dull green colour. We did not meet up at any Club at all, but went to an Essex Pub instead. Anyway, it was a really nice night out. Thanks for the Kohlrabi! To answer a burning question: the T-Shirt is a present from my mate Wolfgang.

It's all about Communication. Vice Cards. Interesting. Via BoingBoing. Vice cards are the means by which London prostitutes advertise their services. They have become as ubiquitous a symbol of this city as the red telephone boxes in which they are found. Step in to any central London call box and you will see up to 80 cards inviting you to be tied, teased, spanked or massaged in luxury apartments, fully-equipped chambers or the privacy of your own hotel room.

The Germans are extremely adept at getting people (and things) efficiently from Point A to Point B and it shows. Its world-class transportation system is one of the most admirable things about the country. The road, rail, and air systems are all extensive and well-maintained. Public transportation in cities is also remarkable.

"robot4"Back. Buggers. Switched the whole system of comments and trackback to haloscan. Seems to work, it only took me 2 hours to paste the code into the right templates. Now what's the 'main template' in the Radio Userland Application, dear haloscan? Eh? Yeah, right. It's not the 'Main Template', it's the friggin 'Home Page' template! Thank you so much. And thanks to the haloscan forum. Otherwise I would have chucked my eMac into a really big and dirty bin now. Good. More tweaking tomorrow. Grrr...

Mac OS X Software of the Month: MacOSaix. It's as easy as ... 1. Choose the image you want to make a mosaic from. 2. Choose the shape and number of tiles in the mosaic. 3. Choose the source of images to use for the tiles.Fab. It seems to be freeware, and I hope the author develops it further - it could need some tweaking. Anyway, my Commander Cliff Allister McLane as a mosaic made up from hundreds of Raumpatrouille images is here [260kb jpeg download, printout recommended]. Yes, I know, it could need some tweaking as well, but after 4 hours I just got fed up ...
