Blogged before, but found again with DEVONagent for OS X. Fab software. Und ich hoffe mal, der Autor der obigen Zeilen meint das nicht wirklich ernst...

I was wondering. In the "old days" I used to report each and every spam I received straight to spamcop. The "old days" were when I got about 30 spams a day. Now that I'm getting between 200 and 350 a day, it just doesn't seem to make sense anymore - even with an automated reporting system I'd just lose precious time. I was also thinking that reporting 200 spams a day might just add to the bandwidth already being used by spam? And it doesn't seem to help anymore; I reported one especially nasty mail this morning. Ten minutes later I received 50 mails, well, I guess they were spams - all from different addresses, blank subject line, blank body; they must have been from the person I was complaining about. I think reporting doesn't make sense anymore. Or did it ever, apart from setting up blacklists that are faulty anyway?Oh, and bots look here please.

Besides looking like no other instrument, the theremin is unique in that it is played without being touched. Two antennas protrude from the theremin - one controlling pitch, and the other controlling volume. As a hand approaches the vertical antenna, the pitch gets higher. Approaching the horizontal antenna makes the volume softer. Because there is no physical contact with the instrument, playing the theremin requires precise skill and perfect pitch.

3D. Synagogues in Germany. A Virtual Reconstruction. Very interesting website. Via paperholic. Since 1995 synagogues that were destroyed by the Nazis in 1938 have been reconstructed on the computer in the Department CAD in Architecture at the Technical University of Darmstadt. The project stems from a student initiative in 1994, a year in which hostility towards foreigners and anti-Semitic commentaries noticeably increased. It was also the year of the arson attack on the synagogue in Lübeck.

The development of early American animation is represented by this collection of 21 animated films and 2 fragments, which spans the years 1900 to 1921. The films include clay, puppet, and cut-out animation, as well as pen drawings. They point to a connection between newspaper comic strips and early animated films, as represented by Keeping Up With the Joneses, Krazy Kat, and The Katzenjammer Kids. As well as showing the development of animation, these films also reveal the social attitudes of early twentieth-century America.

Modeling a Wreck. Roy Mengot has created a scale model of the Titanic wreck. The boiler room only has about 50 parts in it since it's largely obscured. The inverted Y shaped pillars, the steam and water lines, and the collapsed uptakes to the funnels are there according to the plans, but not really visible in the model.

Update. Anthony Rooney writes: I have to say that I enjoyed what I saw. OK, there were a few
problems - I would have lost the scene in the Starlight Casino with
Cliff and a drunken Hasso discussing his marital problems. It's a
scene that works well in the original episode because we see where it
goes, but in the context of the re-edited movie it was out of place
and served no purpose. I also would have lost the scene with Cliff
and his nephews, as - again - it was great in the episode it came
from but seemed odd here. As those are the only two nit-picks I have
I am glad to have got them out of the way as I very much enjoyed the
film. The 'news' items were funny but did not detract from the pace
and excitement of the adventure. The characters of the Orion crew
came across well in the English translation and I had to smile when
Mario was talking about the very good looking 'bird' he's been
pursuing ('bird' being British slang for a good looking girl - 'dolly-
bird' - similar to the American 'chick').

On April 15, 1954, Bellingham, Seattle and other Washington communities are in the grip of a strange phenomenon -- tiny holes, pits, and dings have seemingly appeared in the windshields of cars at an unprecedented rate. Initially thought to be the work of vandals, the pitting rate grows so quickly that panicked residents soon suspect everything from cosmic rays to sand-flea eggs to fallout from H-bomb tests.

Some maps deliberately set out to deceive. Many show a selective view and reflect only the interests of the people who made them. Stunning maps from ancient to modern reveal a secret world. In every case there is more than meets the eye.

St Pancras. Gone. Michael McCarthy writes in the Independent: It was grimy but grand, murky but magnificent, and when it closed last night, something that was the very essence of railway travel in Britain disappeared. At 20 minutes to midnight, St Pancras station in London ceased to be the great Victorian gateway to the cities of the English East Midlands when the last express for Loughborough, Nottingham and Derby pulled out from William Barlow's steel and glass trainshed, one of the engineering wonders of the world when it was built in 1868.Thanks to this thing called Internet, here's a Virtual Tour of St Pancras, created by Jonathan Hall.
