A picture named group.jpgThat's. Wire. Tabs and lyrics to 12XU? Or Pink Flag? Reuters? Here they are:

D|-----------------|
D|-----------------|
A|-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-|

All their songs are not more than 3 or 4 chords. Usually just one chord, with a bit of tabbing on guitar or bass. That's what makes them great. Easy. But play it LOUD.

A picture named schrat.jpgAnd just to let you know... ...or else. ALL of those black and white cartoons on the left hand side of my entries have indeed been drawn by nobody else but me. Except there's a drawing, painting or photograph that directly refers to especially that website. Then it belongs to that site, and nobody else. Or to the Copyright holder.

All the other stuff is by yours truly, The Cartoonist. Which means, if you want to use any of my cartoons for your homepage or God knows what, please ask me. Just ask. Do not download and then upload any of my pictures (from The Cartoonist, my 3D-Illustrations or ESPECIALLY my Raumpatrouille gallery) to your website without mentioning where you got it from.

I'm only writing this because I'm now involved in a legal battle with Bavaria Film AG and/or Schwanstein TV, who both reside in dreadful Southern Germany (Bayern! Bavaria!). Documents are here, here and here.

This, of course, doesn't count for fellow bloggers who refer to my entries anyway. Just carry on.

Anybody else: Please just ASK! Again: Just ask. I've got 3 email addresses, so it can't be that complicated really.

"Dublin Bay, with its great sweep of coast from the rocky brow of Howth in the north to the headland of Dalkey in the south, is a fitting introduction to one of Europe's finest capitals. The city is spread over the broad valley of the River Liffey, with the Wicklow Hills sheltering it on the south. In addition to its splendid public buildings, Dublin is particularly rich in domestic architecture of the 18th century. Fine Georgian mansions, many of them with historical association, lends elegance to the city's wide streets and spacious squares."

A picture named crazy.gifTime for Poetry. I'm still in a Wire mood. Their song Reuters sums up all the madness of the Bush admin:

Our own correspondent is sorry to tell
Of an uneasy time that all is not well

On the borders there's movement
In the hills there is trouble
Food is short, crime is double

Prices have risen since the government fell
Casualties increase as the enemy shell
The climate's unhealthy, flies and rats thrive
And sooner or later the end will arrive

This is your correspondent, running out of tape
Gunfire's increasing, looting, burning, rape

And remember: this song is from about 1977.

A picture named WavyFlag3.gifRaw Power. My ears are still ringing. Amazing, how much noise only 4 people are able to generate.

I just got back from the Wire concert at the Barbican. They were absolutely fantastic. Pure Punk.

"Another day. Another cigarette. From A to B. Again avoiding C, D and E."

They played the complete Pink Flag album, the highlight being '1-2-XU' of course, the best Punk Hymn ever pressed onto vinyl. And they played it at least twice as fast as on the album.

"Our own correspondent is sorry to tell of an uneasy time that all is not well. On the borders there's movement. In the hills there is trouble. Food is short, crime is double."

There were Aerobic videos playing on a big screen in the background. Then a 45 minute break to rearrange the stage, and they played send. Noise, noise, noise. And the band was boxed in, with videos playing on top of them; and their new stuff actually better than the old Pink Flag. After 13 years they just crop up again and produce better music than in the 70s.

"Trust me. Believe me. It's all in the art of stopping."

I've set up a gallery of pictures here (Hey, they call me Mr Focal Length!). Wow. The Velvet Underground Reunion was fab; Devo were great; the Ramones were noisy - but Wire beats them all. Except the Damned perhaps, back in 1977.

Now go to Wire.

A picture named robotmad.gifMad. I'm still mad about a TV production company stealing one of my illustrations. If anybody's interested, this is the mail I sent them this morning (German, sorry, but they're based in Munich):

Hallo Herr Reichenberger,

http://www.kag15.dial.pipex.com/gallery.html

A picture named yogi2.gifModel Sheets. Model sheets are for animators to keep the animated comic characters consistent. So that Yogi Bear always looks like Yogi Bear, although he is being drawn by gazillions of artists, each with their own style, Yogi Bear needs to be Yogi Bear (I could tell you a story about the Dentagard Beaver here, where it didn't work thanks to the Creative Director, but that would be telling).

Anyway, my mate Reimund found a website with hundreds of those model sheets from Disney Studios, Anime, Universal, Hanna Barbera, Dreamworks... Guys, this is ART! And it's all handmade. With pencils and stuff like that. No computers. Honestly.

Has anyone asked me for permission to use my illustration? No.

A picture named 2b.jpgThe Cambridge Four. Interesting article in 7 parts about the Cambridge spies.

"There have been no more successful, more dramatically impressive spies than a group of Englishmen who all met at Trinity College, Cambridge University in the 1930s. To one degree or another, they were active for the Soviet Union for over thirty years. They were the most efficient espionage agents against American and British interests of any collection of spies in the Twentieth Century. One of them, Kim Philby, served the KGB for almost fifty years."

A picture named broken.gifOh, fantastic. The never-ending story of the Central Line. Better than a comedy on BBC. I'll post the whole article. This is unbelievable. Central line fiasco [This is London: London News]

"The Central line fiasco continued today as the route was shut down just 30 minutes after a full service had resumed. Various sections were closed because of fire alerts and defective trains.
Trains were scheduled to start running at 5.30am this morning, but by 6am the line had been brought to a complete standstill causing chaos once again for London's commuters.
All eight stations between Marble Arch and Liverpool Street were closed off because of a fire alert in the Tottenham Court Road area.
A second fire alert then took place between 6.12am and 7.37am affecting the same stations and causing the complete closure of Oxford Circus Tube.
At 7am the Central line service from Marble Arch to Holborn was closed in both directions because of a continuing fire alert, affecting five of the eight stations.
By 11am the Marble Arch to Liverpool Street route was suspended eastbound because of a defective train at Holborn.
The Central line has been closed for safety reasons since the derailment at Chancery Lane on 25 January which injured 32 passengers."
