More Ruhrgebiet. Photos by Thomas Lehr. "Over a period of 250 years the effect of coalmining and heavy industry changed the appearance of this area. Villages here grew into small towns, and these in turn grew and expanded into one large town. Today with the disappearance of the mines and the furnaces, this region is again going through a change. Because of this, only in a very few places you can see the origins of the towns development on the landscape. These photographs try to show both the origins and the changes, but most of all they look at the people living in the area."

Ruhrschnellweg. Ruhrgebiet photography by Reinhard Krause. His series of black and white photos, all taken in the eighties, is fantastic. I found this fabulous link at cursor's brilli.ant weblog.
